My daughter Lola

Lola is a very special person in my life. I have learned so many facets of life from such a little person. She unknowingly teaches me how to be patient person and to appreciate everything God has given us. She is so happy (most the time). I wish I had half of the energy Lola has in her little toe! She teaches me to shrug things off and look at the bright side. Lola is almost three now and getting bigger everyday. It is so exiting to watch her grow and learn. It seems that Lola is much bigger and brighter than all of her play friends. She is potty trained and asking to read and spell everyday. She is eager to learn challenging things and is always up for a tough challenge. Lola loves going to the beach, swimming, playing in the sand, eating snowcones, playing with puppies and kitties, watching her favorite movies, walking, playing baseball, surfing with Daddy, snorkeling, and reading all day if she could. Lola especially loves her grandmothers. Grandma Hart and Lola share a special bond that was apearant since birth. Lola asks about Grandma and when she is coming on a daily basis. She cant wait to see them in a couple of weeks. She is so exited about them coming.
I truly love spending time with Lola and wait in anticipation all day at work to see her. I love that she waits for me at the door to let me in the house. Everyday she happily announces me as I walk through the door. That makes me feel good. Lola always tries to make us happy, even though she has a hard time listening to Mommy and Daddy. She loves to take naps and stay up late and read. She is the best! I love to watch her sleep and listen for when she talks in her sleep. It is the most adorable thing to hear her say random things from the day. Usually she tells someone to leave mommy's things alone, or she will talk about the dinner she just had. It is really funny to hear her talk about that in her sleep. Overall, we love Lola so much and cant wait to see what she chooses in life.

The home of the free

Its funny how life turns out. As weeks turn into months, I am realizing what Hawaii is all about. I want to share some experiences through out this blog, in hopes to give the reader some idea of how magical the Kohala coast is. The culture on the Big Island is unique to say the least. In my travels I have been fortunate to experience the vast differences of countries such as: China, Japan, New Zealand, Fuji, Mexico, Germany, The Bahamas and now Hawaii. I know it is just a state, but once you get here you will notice that there is something distictly different culturally than in the States. People in Hawaii seem to be more laid back and live at a slower pace than anyone else. It has taken me a few months to get a grasp of people showing up to meetings 25 minutes late and think nothing of it, or drivers who go like 2 miles an hour all the wau down Alii Drive! We live just south of downtown Kailua Kona. That is loctated on the west side of the BigIsland. It is the dry side, but the volcanic ash covers the sun sometimes, which is weird. The temp is around 77-80 degrees year round and the ocean stays about the same temp. At times the ocean gets armer than the air! Crazy. Overall, Kona is a good place to raise my daughter Lola. She is almost three now, so we are lookingat some schools for her. I cant believe that she is that old now. Although we havnt met too many people yet, we know that Kona has a lot of young families and is community based. There are alot of programs geared at promoting family and community unity, which is refreshing. I am so glad we decided to move from Seattle. Seattle was way too big and impersonal. We are much happier here. OK..so thats about enough for today.

mean people suck

I decided to start a blog for a couple of reasons. Mostly curiosity. My beautiful wife has been doing this blog thing for a while now and I thought it would be a good way to express myself. I enjoy writing, mostly journaling. I would also like for friends and family to have a way to "stay in the loop" on all the new and exiting experiences being revealed by our Hawaiian surroundings. The goal of this online journal is to address some issues I am passionate about.I also want to give some insight into why I believe that the statement "nice guys finish last" is indeed true, and I am ok with that. Welcome to the show! It's going to be a wild ride.
